Srinagar: Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani issued a fresh diktat on Tuesday appealing the youth in the valley to absolutely abstain from celebrating the New Year. The separatist politician urged people of Kashmir to avoid participating in the various fests organized in the valley, as they allegedly violate the principles of Islam, the culture of Kashmir, and the moral values of their society.
Describing the New Year fests as part of a conspiracy, Geelani said, It is just a cultural aggression which is aimed to detach us from our religion, society and our rich past. Whatever is being thrust upon us in name of New Year celebrations has nothing to do with our rich social values and traditions.
I appeal the people of Kashmir, especially youths to uphold their religious, cultural, moral values and do not show a slavish mindset by participating in those celebrations, Geelani added.
Geelanis appeal comes a couple of days after another fundamentalist leader of the valley, Asiya Andrabi, issued an appeal towards the people of valley to avoid participating in the celebrations of New Year since it is against the principles of Islam. It is a cultural onslaught .these programs are being organised under an agenda devised by RSS to thrust upon Kashmir, the shameless and lewd culture of India, the chief of Dukhtaran-e-Millat said.
