Srinagar- A devastating fire swept through the densely populated Shaheed Gunj area on Saturday, damaging eight residential houses and leaving multiple families homeless.
According to officials from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, they received a distress call at 6:07 AM and immediately dispatched teams to the location. Despite a prompt response, the fire spread rapidly, consuming homes and destroying property worth crores.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as residents scrambled to save their belongings. “We woke up to screams and saw flames engulfing the houses. We barely managed to escape with our families,” said one affected resident.
Firefighters, assisted by the local police and CRPF personnel, battled the blaze for hours, preventing it from spreading further. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire, though authorities are still investigating.
MLA Lal Chowk Ahsan Pardesi visited the affected families and assured them of all possible assistance.
