SRINAGAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) is all set to elect its new Amir (president) today its seventh since the Islamic outfit came into existence.
The outfit that elects its head after every three years has 3677 basic members and about-to-be-members.
Starting from its founders, Saad Ud Din Tarabali, Gh Hakeem Gh Nabi, Gh Muhammad Bhat, Nazir Ahmad Kashaani, Sheikh Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Abdullah Wani have been JeIs heads so far.
Ailing octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch, Syed Ali Geelani has been acting Amir-i-Jamaat occasions but was never elected to be its leader.
