NEW DELHI: The Indian Army is reconceptualizing and rejigging aspects of its conventional approach towards counterinsurgency (COIN). Real world conditions amidst different and differing conditions will be simulated for troops to get a better grasp of modern day COIN. At its 2011 set up Training centre for officers in Gaya Bihar, army is planning to create a model village complete with a mosque and a church to train troops in counter militancy operations.
The full- scale model will replace operations in the Northeast and J&K, The Mumbai based Economic Times reported on Friday from New Delhi.
An elaborate tender floated by the academy has revealed the detailed plans of the proposed counter militancy village. The village will have several mannequins of villagers clad in burqas, pherans, Muslim cap, Church father dress and Pathanisuits. It will also have a few mannequins with North East Ladies clothing, besides some with police uniform, the report said.
The aim of the whole exercise appears to be to sensitize troops to different conditions , contexts and cultures for them to be better and prudently handle and deal with situations as they emerge.
