Srinagar- A Week long Exhibition on Arbaeen held at Mahatta Art Gallery concluded on Wednesday.
The Art, Photography and Calligraphy exhibition attracted the attention of Art lovers who thronged the exhibition throughout the week.
The exhibition featured work of prominent artists, calligraphers and photographers from the Kashmir Valley. It also provided a platform to young artists to showcase their talent.
Nadiya Beigh, a student of School of Architecture, is an art enthusiast from her childhood. She was excited to showcase her work at the Art Gallery.
“Exhibitions like these are held rarely in Kashmir. This exhibition features work of prominent artists, students and even small children” Nadiya said.
“Exhibitions like these will go a long way in providing children with a platform to showcase their talent and inspire them to do better” she added.
Afaq Hussain, a young photographer from Budgam, said he came to know about the exhibition on social media.
He says he showcased his work to the organizers and one of his pictures was put on display at the gallery.
“It is a happy moment for me that my photograph has been put on display. It has encouraged me to do better work in the future” Afaq said.
Organizer of the event, Ilyas Rizvi said the exhibition has been named Mashq-e-Arbaeen as it coincides with Arbaeen.
“It has been organized to pay tributes to the martyrs of Karbala and remember their sacrifices they made for the sake of humanity. Imam Hussain unites every race and community to work for the welfare of humanity”, Ilyas said
Ilyas also organized an Arbaeen Heritage walk in the old Srinagar.
Ilyas said he has been conducting Heritage Walks for many years now but for a few years he conducts the Special Heritage Series during Muharram.
“This year we held an Arba’een Heritage Walk on Arba’een which consisted of mostly women, to Aza Khana’s (mourning halls) of Zadibal. The group, which included some people from outside Kashmir as well, experienced these spaces which are wrapped in black banners and flags”.Ilyas said.
The group also had long interactive sessions at these Aza Khana where they talked about inter community traditions of Muharram in Kashmir.
Syed Iftekhar Jalali at his famous Jalali House in Zadibal talked about the historical background of Zuljanah procession in Kashmir and how the Heritage House was the center of intercommunity dialogue on Socio-religious and cultural sphere.
In interactive sessions participants also talked about the personality of Haji Syed Hassan Rizvi and Haji Syed Ahmad who have attained very high status in Spiritual Realms known as “Ilm e Erfaan”.
The group also explored the Madeen Sahib Shrine and talked about its historical significance.
The exhibition and Arbaeen walk were supported by Edraak, a movement that aims at educational revival through arts and aesthetics in Kashmir and Mahatta Studios.
