Srinagar: For the second straight day, a spontaneous shutdown was observed in the ancestral villages of four out of five militants killed in a gunfight on Thursday in Kellar woods of Shopian district in south Kashmir.
According, four local and one Pakistan militant were killed in a fierce gunfight with government forces. The militants were identified as Shakeel Ahmad Wani of Pakharpora, Tahir of Aglar Kandi in Pulwama, Ishfaq of Arwani in Bijbehara, Parvaiz of Batmurran in Shadimarg and Muhammad Toib, a Pakistan resident.
Most of shops and commercial establishments were closed in the ancestral villages as scores of people thronged the houses of slain militants to pay homage.
Meanwhile, several pro-freedom leaders including Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani have paid tributes to the slain militants and have hailed them as martyrs.
