Srinagar– Around 2-3 militants are trapped in Naira village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district where an encounter broke out on Saturday evening after government forces launched a search operation.
According to officials, police, army and the paramilitary CRPF personnel laid a siege around Naira after receiving information about the presence of militants in the village. When the joint team started advances, they said, the militants hiding in the village opened fire upon them in a bid to escape from the dragnet.
The search team, he said, returned the fire setting off an encounter.
According to reports, 2-3 militants are trapped in the village.
Pertinently, today’s encounter comes three days after militants escaped from the clutches of government forces in the neighbouring Shopian district after injuring three soldiers in a fierce firefight.
The soldiers identified as Somveer Kumar, Lance Naik Mayank Singh and Lance Naik Sunil Kumar were removed to army’s 92 base hospital here for advanced treatment.
“#Encounter has started at Naira area of #Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police posted on its official Twitter handle earlier.
