Srinagar: The DIG Police Rajouri-Poonch range has projected a demand of some 50 companies of paramilitary forces to meet the security requirements for the assembly elections.
Sources in the police said that DIG Rajouri-Poonch range has submitted this demand to police headquarters.
Ashok Arti, DIG Rajouri-Poonch range confirmed to KNS that in order facilitate a hassle free election, some 26 companies of paramilitary forces have been sought for Rajouri and 24 companies of paramilitary forces have been sought for Poonch area.
We are prepared for providing a peaceful atmosphere for upcoming assembly elections in this region. However, the security requirements emphasize a need for some additional companies, Arti said.
There is no law and problem in this area, Arti said, while apprehending that there would be some attempts from across the border to disturb the upcoming elections in the area. The cross LoC violations are meant to facilitate infiltration but we are also prepared for any eventuality, he added.
Arti said that besides maintaining law and order, the forces are well prepared to provide security to the local candidates as per their threat perception and to provide security to the venues for their political campaigning ahead of the elections.
