SRINAGAR: After the outbreak of waterborne diseases in Zurhama village of frontier district Kupwara that has affected the residents of whole village, health department has issued an advisory directing people of village to take precautions and consume only boiled water only.
Sources said that thousands of people of Zurhama village are being treated by a special team of doctors after people there started vomiting and caught diarrhea due to the consumption contaminated water. Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, however said that the source of the outbreak may be the consumption of contaminated food. We have collected the food and water samples and the source of outbreak will get revealed after the report comes, he said.
People however said that the outbreak is the result of consuming contaminated water. Yesterday, PHE division Kupwara supplied water in the village. The water tanker carried muddy water and soon after that people started falling sick, they said.
Executive Engineer Kupwara division Ghulam Qadir Bhat said that the water tank has been cleaned after the outbreak of diarrhea in the village.
Our team has treated so far 1000 patients. 69 people have been admitted as they need proper care, CMO Kupwara Dr Munir Ahmed Khan said adding that people have been asked to take boiled water only.
