SRINAGAR: In continuation to its domestic activities, the Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) conducted skiing and snowboarding championship for senior boys and girls at Kongdori on Thursday. Nearly 60 athletes representing different districts took part in the event.
The race was opened by top Indian skier, Arif Khan. Notably, Arif has been selected to represent India in the upcoming FIS World Ski Championship, to be held in Italy in 3rd week of this month.
In the Men’s event, Bilal Ahmad Sheikh won one gold and one bronze medal, Waseem Bhat won one silver and one bronze. Haseeb Hajam won one silver, Kashif Bhat won one gold medal. While in Girls section Sabiya Nabi won 2 gold, Sana Afzal won one silver and bronze and Zainab won one silver and one bronze medals.
In the Snowboarding event Mehraj Din won Gold, Zubair Lone won Silver and Firdous Ahmad won the bronze medal.
The competition was held in 2 events, Slalom and Giant Slalom. Tomorrow the selection trials for the Khelo India games will be held.
