Srinagar: Scores of residents from Draigam area of Central Kashmirs Budgam district Thursday staged a protest against government and Power Development Department for not supplying electricity to their area from Kanir or other receiving station. The protestors said it is not the matter of feud between the two villages and people from both the villages are on friendly terms. They alleged that a particular political leader who happens to be the Minister in the present government is pressurizing district administration officials and has directed them not to supply electricity to their village from Kanir power receiving station.
Our village Draigam is reeling under darkness from past few weeks while our simple demand is that power be supplied to us from Kanir receiving station. Kanir village is only one kilometer away from our village but it falls in Charar-i-Sharief Constituency while our village falls in Khansahab constituency. A particular Minister is playing politics and has directed Budgam administrative officials not to supply power to our area from Kanir receiving station, Auqaf Committee Chairman Ali Muhammad Beigh told CNS.
The protestors said that dirty politics is taking toll on them and they are suffering because of the political intervention. The protestors alleged that police committed atrocities on them and resorted to aerial firing and teargas shelling without any provocation. They alleged that Chief Engineer Power Development Department advertently does not take cognizance of the matter despite the fact that District administration has recommended him to supply power from Kanir receiving station to their area.
