Srinagar: J&K RTI Movement observed RTI day , on its 5th anniversary at Budgam in which large number of activists, common people and students participated. Apart from discussing success stories and changes RTI Act has brought in J & K ,the programme was meant to create awareness among general public especially people from rural areas. Grass root level activists associated with the Movement discussed various challenges they face while filing the RTI applications and their solution.
Dr Shaikh Ghulam Rasool Chairman J&K RTI Movement said that
RTI is the best tool to fight the menace of corruption and people from all the walks of life must use it in a proper way to work for an open and transparent system the state.
We are teaching the use of law in villages and it is our preference and motto. We want state government to implement section 23 which deals with awareness among people by the Government. So far government has failed in implementing section 4 and 23, which shows how much sincere the state government is in implementation of RTI law in the state, our state is most corrupt hence laws like RTI will help in eradicating this menace, he said.
Farooq Kuthoo, Chief Spokesman J & K RTI Movement congratulated RTI Activists for the great work they are doing by risking their precious lives.
On this occasion the RTI Activists demanded restoration of Rules 2010, Implementation of Section 4 (Pro Active disclosure) and section 23 (Awareness among people about RTI Act) and setting up of fast track courts to to decide cases pertaining RTI Act .
