JAMMU– In another setback to hosting national-level cricket matches in Jammu, the 2024 Ranji Trophy tie between J&K and Delhi on Thursday saw only one over bowled on Day 1 at JKCA Hostel Ground here.
J&K won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, overcast weather conditions in the region resulted in bad light, with pacer Umran Malik reportedly deemed too fast to bowl. Rajasthan Royal’s recent pick, leg-spinner Abid Mushtaq, bowled the only over for J&K, which was a maiden.
Several cricket analysts have blasted BCCI’s scheduling of the 2024 Ranji Trophy, with several states facing inclement weather.
Earlier, J&K’s opening game against Himachal Pradesh on January 5 could complete a mere 65.3 overs over four days, resulting in a draw. J&K was bowled out for 100 runs in 35.3 overs. In reply, Himachal Pradesh were 120-1 in 30 overs on Day 2, before bad light curtailed play. J&K was awarded a point for the draw, while Himachal Pradesh took three points due to their first innings lead.
