SRINAGAR– The finale of the Inter College Football Tournament 2023 concluded Thursday at Synthetic Turf TRC, witnessing an intense clash between University of Kashmir and D C Baramulla.
In a nail-biting encounter, University of Kashmir, coached by internationally acclaimed coach Sajid Yousuf, secured the lead in the 38th minute with an exceptional shot from outside the penalty box, stunning the Baramulla defenders. However, Afnan from D C Baramulla delivered an equalizer just moments before the final whistle, pushing the game into a penalty shootout.
The University of Kashmir emerged victorious in a tense penalty shootout, prevailing over D C Baramulla by 6 goals to 5. The tournament honored outstanding players: Mohd Nayeem of Kashmir received the Golden Shoe, Saleem Yousuf of University of Kashmir earned the Golden Gloves, and Basit of D C Baramulla was awarded the Golden Ball.
University of Kashmir was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with the Winning Trophy and medals, while D C Baramulla received a cash award of Rs 25,000 and medals.
Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Dar, Coordinator DPES, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Mohammad Farooq was the Guest of Honour. This tournament was organised by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with Reliance Foundation Youth Sports.
During the inaugural ceremony, members of J&K Football Association and DFA Srinagar, including Nazir Ahmed Andrabi Chairman JKFA, Waseem Aslam Ex Chairman and Chief Coordinator JKFA, Bashir Ahmed Malik President DFA Srinagar and Naseem ul Gani, senior member JKFA, interacted with the teams.
