SRINAGAR- Two footballer from Kashmir Valley, defender Jahangir Ahmad Shagoo and forward Sahil Khurshid, were on Thursday named in the Under-19 Indian National Team to compete at the SAFF U-19 Championship.
The two Sports Council Football Academy products trained with the U-19 national team back in January. The duo will now represent India in the championship, set to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from September 21 to 30.
The 23-member U-19 team is coached by Shuvendu Panda and left for a training camp in Saudi Arabia on Friday. The team will travel to Kathmandu on September 19.
India are in Group B alongside Bhutan and Bangladesh.
The Jammu & Kashmir Football Association extended its best wishes to Jahangir and Sahil.
“This moment is nothing short of immense pride for the entire Jammu & Kashmir region, and in particular, Baramulla and Lasjan,” the FA said in a statement.
“We also want to recognize and applaud the J&K Sports Council for their continuous support and contribution to nurturing the talents in our region. The inclusion of yet another promising player in the national team speaks volumes of the talent pool in J&K,” it added.
