Srinagar- Hundreds of people on Tuesday joined funeral prayers of prominent political and social activist, Nisar Hussain Rather who passed away in the morning due to cardiac arrest.

Funeral prayers were led by Agha Syed Hadi at Khomeini Chowk, Bemina and Rather was laid to rest at the local cemetery, reports said.

A firebrand speaker, Nisar Rather was active all his adult life on political and social fronts for which he spent several jail terms.
He was a prominent face on 8th Muharram as he would brave police lathicharge to lead his contingent of followers on the day to defy restrictions on the traditional Alam Sharif procession.
