Srinagar- Describing historic Lal Chowk as a key component of the Srinagar Smart City project, J&K Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta Tuesday said the area will appear completely different in the days to come.
Dr Mehta said the project will be completed before the 77th Independence Day and that the people of Srinagar would enjoy spending evenings at Lal Chowk.
The Chief Secretary was speaking to the media on the sidelines of his visit to Lal Chowk to review progress of the ongoing Srinagar Smart City project.
He was accompanied by the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Ajaz Assad, Chief Engineer SSCL, Iftikhar Ahmad Kakroo and other senior officials.
Replying to a query whether the project (Lal Chowk) will be inaugurated before Independence Day, the Chief Secretary said yes it will be completed before August 15.
“Lal Chowk is one of the primary components of Srinagar Smart City Ltd. People of Srinagar would enjoy spending their evenings here like that of Jhelum Riverfront. It will have an entirely different look in the days to come, much more beautiful and attractive,” Dr Mehta added.
It may be in place to mention that 99 percent of work of the historic clock tower or Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk has been completed and that the project is all set to be inaugurated ahead of the 77th Independence Day, being celebrated across India on August 15.
