SRINAGAR- The J&K senior men’s cricket team on Wednesday defeated Uttarakhand by 9 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to enter the pre-quarterfinal stage of the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
J&K team went into the match against Uttarakhand knowing that only a victory would seal their progression in the tournament. Winning the toss, J&K decided to bowl first. The move paid off as Uttrakhand batters were left reeling at 36/4 after 10.1 overs.
However, a resilient display from the low-order batters helped Uttarakhand post a respectable 251/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Priyanshu Khandari 97 (125), Swapnil Singh 61 (82) and Dikshanshu Negi 52 (48) top scored for the team.
For J&K, Aquib Nabi took 3 wickets, while Mujtaba Yousuf and Yudhvir Singh took 1 wicket each.
In reply, the J&K batters got off to a wonderful start with the opening pair of Vivrant Sharma 154* (124) and Shubham Khajuria 71 (90) striking an 182 run opening partnership in 34.3 overs. Henan Nazir contributed 24 (41) to seal the match in J&K’s favour.
J&K will now face Kerala on November 26. The match will be played at Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad.
