Srinagar- A local militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit was killed in an overnight encounter with government forces in Binner area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.
The government forces launched a cordon and search operation in Binner area of the district late evening hours on Saturday after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants there, said a police official.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter when militants opened firing on the government forces, who too retaliated with gunfire.
One local LeT militant identified as Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Pattan Baramulla was killed in the encounter, the official said, adding that the search operation was still going in the area.
