SRINAGAR- J&K Pencak Silat teams created history by winning the overall National Pencak Silat Championship with 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals.
The championship was held in Rohtak, Haryana from December 24-27, and witnessed the participation of over 1700 players from 29 states and regions.
Rutbah Shabir and Aqsa Gulzar won Gold for J&K, while Ayeera Chishti and Labeeb Feroz won the Silver Medals.
Ayeera Chishti missed out on the Gold due to a hamstring injury, and had to quit the final bout during 1st round of the finals. Labeeb played well to win 3 bouts back to back, as he defeated Haryana A & B and last year national champion from Maharashtra, but lost the final bout against Assam with close margin of score.
Rutbah Shabir played outstandingly and won 1st ever Gold medal in National Championship. Rutbah defeated 4 states: Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and last year champion UP.
The J&K Pencak Silat Association congratulated the athletes for their winning performances, and their parents who supported them.
J&K team created history by achieving the overall champion title, and were followed by Haryana in 2nd and Maharashtra in 3rd.
