Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested 16 gamblers during a raid in Parimpora area of the city outskirts.
Ashiq Hussain, Altaf Ahmad Bhat, Firdous Ahmad Sofi, all residents of Saida Kadal Srinagar, Mohammad Younis Zargar of Hawal, Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh of Chanapora, Farooq Ahmad Shah of Bohri Kadal, Ghulam Ahmad of Fateh Kadal, Parvaiz Ahmad Ganai and Mohammad Shoib Bhat, both residents of Bemina, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh of Dalgate, Asif Ahmad of Nowgam, Sajad Ahmad Wani and Tanveer Ahmed Wani of Shopian, Mohammad Ramzan of Pulwama, Ali Mohammad Bhat of Gund-Hassi Bhat and Fayaz Ahmad Rather Ahrambagh were arrested by police in a raid at a gambling site in Parimpora area of the city outskirts on Friday.
Besides playing cards, an amount of Rs 5.76 lakh in cash was recovered from the gambling site.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started further investigations in this regard.
