Srinagar-Jammu Highway Remains Closed For Second Day

SRINAGAR - The strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the sec­ond consecutive day Satur­day leaving as many as 2500 heavy motor vehicles strand­ed, traffic officials said.

The vital road link connect­ing Kashmir with rest of the country was closed for vehicu­lar traffic for the second day to­day in wake of the slippery road conditions around Jawahar tun­nel, the officials said. They said movement of vehicles was also suspended in Banihal-Qazi­gund section as well.

“Efforts are on to clear the snow from the highway and as soon it becomes opera­tional, stranded vehicles on the 264-km long road will be cleared first,” the official said.

Srinagar-Leh highway also remained closed  due to accumulation of snow at many places.

The 86 kilometres Mughal road that connects Shopian, Anantnag, Kishtwar road too remained closed for the traffic on Saturday.

The Kupwara –Tangdar and Machil road closed for the traffic due to fresh snowfall on the Sadh­na Top and around 60 vehicles are stranded in Chowkibal and other places, officials said. (KNS).
