SRINAGAR – The strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the second consecutive day Saturday leaving as many as 2500 heavy motor vehicles stranded, traffic officials said.
The vital road link connecting Kashmir with rest of the country was closed for vehicular traffic for the second day today in wake of the slippery road conditions around Jawahar tunnel, the officials said. They said movement of vehicles was also suspended in Banihal-Qazigund section as well.
“Efforts are on to clear the snow from the highway and as soon it becomes operational, stranded vehicles on the 264-km long road will be cleared first,” the official said.
Srinagar-Leh highway also remained closed due to accumulation of snow at many places.
The 86 kilometres Mughal road that connects Shopian, Anantnag, Kishtwar road too remained closed for the traffic on Saturday.
The Kupwara –Tangdar and Machil road closed for the traffic due to fresh snowfall on the Sadhna Top and around 60 vehicles are stranded in Chowkibal and other places, officials said. (KNS).
