SRINAGAR – Political detainees lodged at MLA Hostel are up in arms against the authorities over what they alleged that the makeshift jail has been ill equipped and lacks all kinds of facilities.
Some of the political detainees exchanged heated arguments with the security officials deployed there and there was virtually a scuffle, sources said.
A couple of relatives of political detainees who had gone to meet them at the hostel said that there was a faceoff between some of the detainees and the security officials at the Hostel.
The detainees are alleging that unnecessary restrictions are being imposed upon them and the building in which they are lodged lacks all facilities.
“There are frequent power cuts as a result the rooms of detainees turn into cold storage. Some of the ailing political leaders are unable to bear the chill of this ongoing winter,” said a relative of a political detainee on condition of anonymity.
Over thirty political leaders including NayeemAkhtar, Sajad Lone, Mubarak Gul, Shah Faesal and others have been lodged in the makeshift jail. Hundreds of political leaders were arrested after Government of India abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The three former Chief Ministers including Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are also under arrest since August 5. (KNT)
