Militants Escape After Brief Gunfight In Shopian

SRINAGAR — State forces and militants on Tuesday exchanged a brief in Yarwan forests of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports said that a joint team of Army’s 23 Para, 44RR, SOG and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Yarwan forests in the afternoon.

A senior police officer also confirmed that the forces and the militants exchanged brief gunfight. He said that searches in the area are still going on to trace out the hiding militants.

Sources, however, said that the joint team of forces called off the operation after the militants managed to escape.
