SRINAGAR Unknown gunmen kidnapped and killed a sawmill worker in Gulzarpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmirs Pulwama district, police said on Friday.
The gunmen, officials said, fired upon the worker Manzoor Ahmad Lone near Higher Secondary School at Gulzarpora at around 9:50 p.m. on Thursday. The 40-year-old Manzoor of Dogripora village died instantly, they said.
Initial investigations have revealed that he was forcibly taken away by the militants and shot dead, a police spokesman said.
He said police has registered a case soon after hearing about the incident; police officers from the local police unit visited the spot and investigated the circumstances which led to the incident.
Body will be handed over to the family members after completion of medico-legal formalities, the spokesman added.
Army Porter Killed Under Snow Along LoC
An army porter was killed after a snow-slide hit him in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday afternoon.
Reports said that the porter Shakil Ahmad son of Feroz Ahmad Din was injured critically after a snow slide hit him at Pinkdi Chowk along Line of Control (LoC).
Shakil, a resident of Ajgar Nawa Uri was immediately evacuated to nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival.
Station House officer (SHO) Uri Tabrez Khan confirmed the incident. “The slain porter was working with army’s 4 Madras,” he said, adding that the deceased was clearing snow near the army camp when the slide hit him.
