JAMMU The Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir Shailendra Kumar has convened a meeting of all political parties in Jammu on Friday regarding conduct of the Parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The letter has been sent to ten political parties including Bhartiya Janta Party, National Conference, PDP and Congress and reads: In order to review the general preparedness for the forthcoming General Elections 2019, Chief Electoral Officer J&K has desired to convene a meeting of all political parties on January 18 at 11:00 am in his office chamber, Vikas Bhawan Railhead complex, Jammu. The letter has been written by Deputy CEO, J&K, Anil Salgotra and is addressed to the president/general secretaries of the parties. Accordingly I am directed to request you to attend the said meeting on the scheduled date and time, adds the letter.
The ECI did not hold Parliament elections for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat in January last year after political parties, including the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, warned against it citing the deteriorating situation on the ground and rising civilian killings near encounter sites.
Later, J&K came first under Governors rule and then Presidents rule after the PDP-BJP government fell apart in June last year. J&K has been without an elected government for around seven months now.
