Protest In Old City Against Alleged Handing Over Of Arrested-People To NIA

SRINAGAR — A day after police refuted reports that several people arrested by it were being handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, a protest was held at Rajouri Kadal Srinagar to press for the demand of the release of these people.

Reports said that the family members and relatives of the jailed persons assembled at Rajouri Kadal in old Srinagar and blocked the road to press for their release.

They said the people arrested by police were innocent. They said it will have serious ramifications if their kin are handed over to NIA and shifted to Delhi.
Pertinently, days after the reports of handing over of the nine youth from various parts of Kashmir to NIA appeared in media, police refuted the reports and said all the accused persons were presently in “Judicial custody”.
A police spokesman said that a case is registered in Kothi Bagh police station in this regard.
“FIR No 93/2018 U/s 307,7/27,16-B has been registered against these youth on relevant charges,” a police official said.
