HandwaraPolice in Handwara town of North Kashmirs Kupwara district have arrested a fraudster who duped dozens of people minted money from them after providing them fake job orders.
According to police the imposter namely Fayaz Ahmed (34), alias Zahoor, a resident of Vilgam Handwara used to pose as a government recruiting agent and giving people fake job offers from different government agencies including top officials of Police department.
“We arrested the cheater on a joint complaint filed by the victims that he grabbed money from them in the form of recruiting fee while all the job offers were fake,” SDPO Handwara said.
The accused is also a dismissed SPO who thought of this illegal innovative plan and duped the victims by dialing fake phone numbers, pretending to be a frequent visitor to the offices of higher officials, reports said.
The accused used police letterheads to write appointment letters with fake signatures of top police officers and when the matter was brought to their notice, a trap to nab the culprit was laid.
SSP Handwara Gulam Jeelani Wani confirmed the arrest of the accused. He said Manzoor Khan of Hygam Batapora Kupwara and Nazir Mir of Wasun Kupwara were his latest victims.
The accused has been booked and a formal case vide FIR number 387/17 under section 420,467 RPC stands registered against him.
