ThiruvananthapuramKerala edged closer to their third victory of their season after their bowlers knocked over seven Jammu & Kashmir batsmen with only 56 runs after they were set a target of 238 in Thiruvananthapuram. Seamer MD Nidheesh and spinners Sijomon Joseph and KC Akshay picked up two wickets each before bad light suspended play.
Before the day turned so pear-shaped, J&K actually harboured hopes of a victory thanks to a Parvez Rasool fifer which didn’t allow Kerala to take the game away with their second innings. Rasool removed star Kerala batsman Jalaj Saxena and followed that up with the wickets of Sachin Baby and Sanju Samson to leave Kerala at 66 for 4. Prem and Karthik added a decisive 65 for the fifth wicket before Prem and Nizar added 43 immediately after. Aamir Aziz then cleaned up the tail to set up a tantalising chase only for J&K’s batsmen to let the team down. J&K captain Parvez Rasool picked up five wickets to finish with a match haul of 11 wickets.
Brief scores: Kerala 219 & 191 (Rohan Prem 58, Arun Karthik 36; Parvez Rasool 5-70) lead J&K 173 & 56-7 (Sijomon Joseph 2-11, MD Nidheesh 2-7) by 182 runs
