SrinagarThe Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated World Tourism Day on the theme Sustainable Tourism-A tool for development, set by UNWTO for the year 2017.
While inaugurating the function, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Meraj ud Din Mir, highlighted the tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir and accentuated the need of responsible and sustainable tourism at the newly identified places across the State. He appreciated the department for organizing the function.
Head, Department of Tourism Studies and Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Syed Fayyaz, welcomed the guests and the students. Tourism plays a pivotal role towards the sustainability of peace, dialogue, economy and environment, said Prof. S Fayyaz. He further appreciated students of MTTM 1st Semester for taking an initiative to celebrate the Day.
A presentation on Sustainable development of Bungus Valley was made during the event. The students also participated in a quiz programme and performed a skit.
Former Director General Tourism, State Convener INTACH, J&K chapter & Adjunct faculty of DTS, Mr. Saleem Beg, also shared his views with the students on Sustainable Tourism.
Former Commissioner Secretary Transport and Adjunct Faculty of DTS, Dr. G.R Ghani, also deliberated on Development of Tourism through Sustainable measures.
Faculty members of the department, research scholars and students were also present during the event.
Assistant Professor, Ms. Asra Wani, conducted the programme proceedings while as Assistant Professor, Mr. Faizan Ashraf Mir, presented the vote of thanks.
