AwantiporaA Special lecture on Importance of Creating Human Resources for Community Development was organized by Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Tuesday. Capt. Dr. Sohail Nasti, a disaster medical specialist and a founder of Mother Helpage Worldwide is currently in Kashmir working on the youth development initiatives.
Nasti dealt at the length about the importance of education institution in imparting knowledge to the youth which can help them to bring positive change in the society. He said IUST is the perfect place where students can be taught both religion and technical knowledge. They can use both to build themselves and society as well. Students can do new researches and inventions on global platform which will boost their exposure and experiences, Nasti said.
Nasti is the first rescue pilot of the Valley who is extensively involved in the charity work which includes emergency relief, safe water, orphan sponsorship, women empowerment, health and short term relief programs like Ramadhan and Qurbani projects in Kashmir.
Talking about various issue of Kashmir he said people have to work together to end menaces of the society like drug abuse. Awareness, cooperation and counseling can pay many better ways to uplift the society we are living in. He further elaborated that volunteerism needs to be promoted among the youths so that they can contribute more and more towards social responsibilities.
Talking on the occasion, Prof. Mushtaq A Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, IUST said universities are not only meant to give away the degrees but also can play an active role in sustainable development of the society. He appreciated the work and efforts of team lead by Dr. Nasti in the community development.
Prof. Mushtaq A Qurishi, Dean Academic Affairs, also spoke during the occasion. Prof. Abdul Salam, Head, Department of Economics proposed a vote of thanks.
The event was attended by galaxy of scholars, students, faculty and officers of the varsity. The lecture was followed by a vibrant Question & Answer session in which students and faculty put forth their queries to Dr. Nasti.
