SrinagarAwami Ittehad Party (AIP) Er Rasheed on Saturday said that the government has accepted defeat by detaining Hurriyat leaders who were scheduled to fly to New Delhi for a sit-in protest.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function in Kupwara, Rasheed said the state government stands widely exposed by detaining Hurriyat leaders.
Yesterday, the state police chief claimed that joint resistance leadership is free to go anywhere but today the same police chief put Hurriyat leaders under detention, thus proving yet again that government is confused, dishonest and leaves no stone unturned to hide its suppression, he said.
The excuse that Hurriyat leaders would have taken out a rally before heading for New Delhi has proved that Hurriyat is enjoying huge mass support and government has accepted its defeat.
If New Delhi used to claim that Hurriyat is a Pak funded organization and the claims that funding has stopped after NIA raids then government should not have detained Hurriyat leaders if their credibility and popular support was eroded, he said.
