SrinagarA Review meeting of the Motor Vehicles Department of Kashmir Region was convened under the Chairmanship of Transport Commissioner J&K Shiekh Fayaz Ahmed in his Office Chamber here. The meeting was attended by all RTOs/ARTOs of Kashmir Region besides officers of the Transport Commissioners Office and NIC. All the important issues pertaining to Motor Vehicles Department were discussed in the meeting and the functioning of the Department was reviewed.
It was reiterated by the Transport Commissioner to the Field Functionaries that the department should come up to the expectations of the general public and should provide service delivery in a time bound manner without any delay. He said that all the RTO/ARTO offices of J&K (except Leh & Kargil) have been switched over to VAHAN & SARTHI Version 4 which is a web based online portal for providing online services to the general public and Leh and Kargil shall be covered very soon.
He further stated that after hectic efforts of the department MoRTH, GoI, has sanctioned Rs. 7.00 Crores for Hardware requirements for smooth switchover. The related issues of encouraging e-payments was also discussed which is presently in vogue. Providing of facility at dealer point Registration of vehicles is under consideration and will be finalized very soon.
With the efforts of the department MoRTH, GoI, have sanctioned Institute of Drivers Training and Research (IDTR) and Inspection and Certificate Center (ICC) Jammu on which execution of work shall be started very soon. Other issues like holding of Regional Transport Authority Meetings, Issuance of Driving Licenses, Issuance of permits, Registration of vehicles, Fitness of vehicles, status of Public Service Guarantee Act/ RTI, holding of awareness camps, revenue realization, level of expenditure achieved besides enforcement of provisions of Motor Vehicles Act and rules framed thereof were discussed in detail and necessary instructions were conveyed to the field staff for putting additional efforts to achieve the targets and provide better services to the common masses. The actionable points contained in the State Road Safety Policy were also discussed and timelines were fixed for preparing action taken report for submission to the Government.
Fayaz conveyed to the meeting that the check point at Zig Qazigund have been made functional once again for checking menace of overloading. Flying squads also been constituted in Srinagar and Jammu for checking of different violence on ground level.
Transport Commissioner said that an amount of Rs. 30.00 Crores (ending June, 2017) Revenue have been realized by the Motor Vehicles Department in the Kashmir Region.
Transport Commissioner called for active support and coordination from the field functionaries for enriching the image of the department and disposing of issues in a hassle free environment in a time bound manner.
