SrinagarTerming the recent statements of Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei on Kashmir, as timely and pragmatic, both factions of Hurriyat Conference Wednesday urged Iran to play an active role in resolving the seven decade old Kashmir conflict as per wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
Hurriyat (G), Chairman Syed Ali Geelani thanked Irans Supreme Leader and expressed his satisfaction for his support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for freedom.
Iran is a country based on Islamic ideology and we hope that it will support our cause as they do for the Palestinian people, Syed Ali Geelani said in a statement issued for press here today.
Geelani said, Revolutionary leader Imam Khomeini always followed a straight forward policy and supported our mission.
These two issues (Kashmir and Palestine) are very much similar, Geelani said and added that both issues related to entire Muslim Ummah.
The religious places are desecrated and a planned genocide is being carried out in both Kashmir and Palestine, Geelani alleged.
Geelani said that unless these two issues are resolved according to peoples aspirations and expectations, the uncertain situation and instability will continue to haunt people living in the Muslim world.
Iran has a leading role to play and they can be of great help to generate a consensus and public opinion against mass killings in these two regions, Geelani said.
Urging Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan to forge a regional alliance, Geelani said that it will solve various complicated issues and will help in building the era of peace, prosperity and development in region.
Such alliance can create an atmosphere for resolving the issue related to Kashmir, Palestinian and rest of the Muslim world, Kashmiri leader said.
Geelani said that considering his high caliber & stature, Ayatollah Khamenei can prove of great help as a facilitator in this regard.
Meanwhile Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, who heads moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference also issued a statement welcoming the support extended to Kashmiri people by Ayatollah Khamenei.
The recent speech on Eid-al-Fitr by the patron of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenai and the subsequent order to Irans judiciary to follow and support Kashmir cause has raised the morale of Kashmiri people and we hope that other countries who believe in justice and fairness will follow suit and support the just struggle of the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their right to self determination, Mirwaiz said in his statement.
Thanking Ayatollah Khamenei for his unequivocal support to the Kashmir cause and his directions to Iranian judiciary, Mirwaiz said that the people of Kashmir hope that this will also reflect in the foreign policy of the Iranian Government.
