Srinagar: Trial run on the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir valley has started after the snow clearance operation was completed. We have allowed some light vehicles today on the highway, which remained closed for six winter months, official sources said.
They said the trial run was scheduled yesterday but due to avalanche on May 8, it was delayed. The highway will be officially declared open within next two or three days, they said adding necessary repair work of the road, damaged due to snow, was being carried out. Today 25 light vehicles, carrying essential commodities, were allowed to ply on Srinagar-Leh national highway, they said.
A vehicle carrying an ill patient was also allowed to ply from Drass side, they said. The vehicles had to pass through six to eight feet of snow wall on both sides, they said.
