Srinagar: MGNREGA employees on Wednesday called off their relay hunger strike after Assembly Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan assured them that their demand of job regularization would be fulfilled.
Under the aegis of the MNREGA Employees Association, workers had been protesting for over a week at Pratap Park Srinagar, demanding regular jobs. They were alleging that public representatives had been giving them false assurances.
Jan Muhammad, President MNREGA Employees Association told CNS that a team of officials led by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan visited them and during his address assured them their demand of job regularization would be fulfilled within a month. Divisional Commissioner who was accompanied by Director Rural Development Department informed us that they had visited on the directions of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and assured us that our demand will be fulfilled, he said.
The MNREGA Employees Association while thanking the government especially the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir hoped that Chief Minister will not disappoint them this time. (CNS)
