Srinagar: Summery weather continued for the fourth day today due to sunshine though the minimum temperature remained below normal in Kashmir, where a fresh spell in snow and rain is predicted from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, people continued to shiver in the border town of Kargil, which was the coldest place in the region at minus 9.4 degree, followed by world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where mercury dipped and settled at minus 4.4 degree.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours in the state. But, he said a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from Arabian sea, and is entering the region though Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region tomorrow, resulting in wet weather for the subsequent three days.
The night temperature at Kargil further dipped and settled at minus 9.4 degree, against minus 9 degree recorded yesterday.
However, the mercury at Leh witnessed an improvement of about 5 degree from yesterday and settled at minus 1.2 degree due to cloudy skies.
Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, witnessed a dip in the night temperature as mercury plunged and settled at minus 4.4 degree, against 3.8 degree recorded yesterday. The night temperature at Gulmarg was over 2 degree below normal.
Even though there was some improvement in the night temperature, it was still 2 degree below normal. Meanwhile, people woke up to yet another sunny morning in the summer capital, Srinagar, where as the day progressed, the temperature improved further. Against 2.8 degree recorded yesterday at Srinagar, the night temperature surged and settled at 3.3 degree.
Yesterday, the day temperature in the summer capital was 4 degree above normal.
The Met spokesman said light rain or thunderstorm would occur during the next 24 hours at Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 13 degree and 5 degree.
But, the night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the Kashmir Valley, on the 300-km-long national highway, dipped and settled at 2.2 degree, against 2.8 degree recorded yesterday.
Meanwhile, health resort of Pahalgam, which is about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, witnessed a dip in the night temperature. Against minus 1.4 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at the health resort was minus 1.6 degree.
The mercury at tourist resort of Kokernag in south Kashmir and Kupwara in north Kashmir witnessed some improvement. Against 1.8 degree recorded yesterday at Kokernag, the night temperature was 3 degree whi
