SRINAGAR : A joint team of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affair (FCS&CA) and Legal Metrology Departments Wednesday conducted a market checking of various areas of Srinagar city.
The team inspected various markets of Srinagar City including Hari Singh High Street, Lal Chowk, Wazir Bagh, Batmaloo, Baran Pather, Karan Nagar, Zadibal, Nowshera and Alamgari Bazar.
During the drive a penal sum of Rs 7900 was recovered as a fine from 17 erring shopkeepers for violation of the Essential Commodities Act 1955, besides huge quantity of rotten vegetables and other food items were destroyed.
It was said that, such market checking drive would be held continuously to curb the black-marketing, profiteering and hoarding. Theshopkeepers were asked to strictly adhere to government rate list and appealed to the people not to pay more than government approved rates.
