SRINAGAR: Four UDAAN candidates from Kashmir Valley were allegedly beaten to pulp by some goons in New Delhi.
The candidates told the Kashmir Observer on phone that they were beaten and looted by a group of men when they were on the way towards home.
We were on way towards home when some goons who were following us from the hotel, stopped our rickshaw and then started beating us merciless without any reasons, said Mohammad Tahir, a student from Kashmir.
They continuously punched on my face, my nose start bleeding and they broke my specs, watch, mobile and then snatched my wallet, said Mohammad Rafiq, one of the candidates.
The students, who completed their three-month long stay under UDAAN scheme in Delhi, said the situation turned ugly when the goons brandished knives. They were about to stab us when some by-passers intervened, said Tahir.
The students blamed Hotel owner for the act. The goons had some brawl with the hotel owner on some issues.
The students belonging to Ligare company of UDAAN alleged that they were served with alien and unhygienic food at the hotel.
After we started complaining, the Hotel owners brother came to our room and threatened us. We had heated argument with him, since then we continued to face difficulties from the hotel staff, said Mohammad Rafiq.
On the last day, we requested them to allow us to stay till evening as our train was scheduled for the evening, said Shiraz Ahmad another candidate, but they showed no mercy and asked us to leave any how and when we left the hotel, the hotel owners brother dispatched his men to beat us.
Many students of the valley complaint that under UDAAN employment scheme, they were not offered any placement as promised even after completing the three months training program.
We are investigating the matter, we assure the students that necessary action will be taken against the hotel owner, if found guilty, said Athar Quarshi, the man who is recruiting students from the Valley.
The UDAAN scheme was launched on March 26, 2012, to enhance skills and employability of 40,000 to 57,000 graduates, post-graduates and three years engineering diploma holders from state.
The scheme is funded by Ministry of Home Affairs and implemented by NSDC. The aim is to provide skills and job opportunities to them, but the much hyped job policy scheme has come under the sharp critics.
