PULWAMA: A J&K policeman was injured in clashes in Ratnipora area of south Kashmirs Pulwama district on Monday, officials said.
SSP Pulwama Rayees Muhammad Bhat said that a cop suffered head injury during stone-pelting protests. He said that forces resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protesters.
He said that the cop was on duty for the VIP visit to the area.
However, locals said that youth pelted stones on the cavalcade of Minister of State for Forest, Environment & Ecology, Sheep and Animal Husbandry, and MLA Pampore, Zahoor Ahmad Mir when he was on way to PDP leader Showkat Gayoors residence to condole his mothers death.
The escort of the minister, they said, resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters.
Mir Zahoor, however, denied that his cavalcade was attacked. I had left when the incident (protests) happened, he said.
Mir told KNS over phone that he went to Ratnipora for a condolence meet and after he left, there were minor stone pelting incidents between the police party and few youth. It was after I left the spot that a minor stone pelting incident took place. My cavalcade wasnt attacked by anyone. Those who spread such rumours on social networking sites have some hidden agendas behind. Press should ascertain the facts ahead of reporting them for public, Mir said.
