SRINAGAR: J&K Government on Tuesday claimed that it was NC-Congress coalition which first issued domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees.
Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu, said it was National Conference (NC) which issued domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) and this party is now resorting to double speak only to destabilize the present government.
Talking to KNS, Drabu said they have consistently maintained that their government wont issue certificates to WPRs, but the report recently published in a local daily has opened the Pandora box that it was during the Omar Abdullahs regime that domicile certificates were issued to WPRs.
When referred to statements of NC politicians including Ali Muhammad Sagar who have been maintaining that their government had not issued any such certificates, Drabu said, in the face of documentary evidence, no NC politician even Sagar Sahab can deny the reality.
Drabu said according to the report, the things are quite clear that who are actually the people, who issued certificates to WPRs.
The Finance Minister made it clear that no certificate has been issued to WPRs by the present government, but added that NC used fake news reports regarding the issue of WPRs only to destabilize the present government. But now it has been proved that NC government has issued domicile certificates, he said.
However, the main opposition political parties-National Conference and Congress have completely snubbed the reports about issuing of any domicile certificates to WPRs during their tenure.
The political developments have created a fresh uproar after a media report stated that that the previous NC-Congress government 2009-2012 had issued 784 certificates to WPR.
Sagar termed the allegations as baseless as nothing such had happened in our government.
I challenge this statement, we havent issued a single certificate to any refugee, he claimed.
Pradesh Congress Committee Chief G A Mir said that such things never happened when they were in the power.
Now when we are in the opposition, such things are happening and the ruling PDP is gossiping around different tunes to facilitate issuance of certificates to WPRs, he said.
Mir said it was never possible and, in case their government had done so, the Opposition (PDP) at that time wouldnt have remained silent. They (PDP) must have opposed it sternly.
