Pulwama: J&K Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant during a search operation in Nowpora village of south Kashmirs Pulwama district even as people came out of their houses to protest the search operation.
Reports said that Manzoor Ahmad Ganai (21), a suspected militant belonging tp Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was arrested from a Masjid during an operation in Nowpora Payeen village.
One pistol, 2 pistol rounds, 36 AK rounds, one Chinese grenade, two pistol magazines, one pouch and first aid kit was recovered from the suspected militant, reports said.
Meanwhile, several persons were injured in clashes that erupted after forces launched the operation.
According to the Superintendent of Police district Pulwama Rayees Ahmad Bhat, Manzoor had joined the militant group recently and was active from last 25 days.
Earlier on the day the locals hurled stones and resisted the forces to carry out hunt operation after which the forces had to resort aerial firing.
Reports said that forces resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling in Nowpora Lassipora village after clashes erupted between protesters and forces during a cordon and search operation.
Scores of youth took to streets and staged protest soon after forces cordoned the area, reports said.
