Srinagar : Much to the embarrassment of the Jammu Kashmir Waqf Board, rain water is leaking from the dome of Hazratbal shrine and finding its way directly into the mosque.
This is despite the fact that the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Waqf Board has spent Crores of rupees on the renovation of the same.
The dome that was in shambles for years and had lost its marble cladding in 2011 got a facelift and according to sources Crores were spent for the purpose.
Reports said that the dome has developed cracks at two places where from water is leaking and directly dropping into the shrine. The devotees are aghast and want Waqf Board to repair the damage.
While repairing the dome, the Board had spent a huge amount of money and within a year or two the dome has developed cracks at two places, a group of devotees said.
We tried to bring the issue into the notice of Waqf Board officials and were told that most of the officials have gone to New Delhi, the devotees claimed.
Despite repeated attempts, Vice Chairman Waqf Board could not be contacted.
Pertinently Waqf Board was in news for bad reasons when in the year 2013, some of its employees were indicted by a probe committee who had allegedly sold copper plates weighing 60 to 70 kgs which were used in the dome of the shrine. (CNS)
