Srinagar: Police in south Kashmir have detained two persons including brother of a militant in connection with an attack on Saturday last week at Anantnag that left two cops including an officer dead.
According to the official sources, Special Operation Group (SOG) during a raid picked up two youths from their respective houses at Khudwani area of Kulgam district.
The detained youths have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Lone and Parvez Ahmad Mattoo. Both the persons were initially taken to SOG camp Kulgam where from later they were handed over to Cargo Srinagar for further questioning, the sources said.
Parvez Ahmad Matoo, one of the two detained persons, is the brother of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant, Junaid Ahmad. Pertinently, pictures and video of two persons, holding AK 47 rifles, firing bullets and chanting Allah-u-Akbar slogans near attack spot along Khanabal-Pahalgam Road near Anantnag Bus Stand went viral Saturday on social networking sites and messaging application, whatsapp.
With the help of footage, police managed to identify these militants as Junaid Ahmad Lone of Khudwani Kulgam and Ali, who is believed to be a non-local. Both are allegedly believed to be involved in the killings. Though nothing is known about Ali, but it is being said that Junaid left his home last year to join militant ranks when he was 18.
A senior police officer meanwhile confirmed the detentions and said the duo is being questioned with regard to the Anantnag attack. They are being questioned, he added.
Police launches poster campaign to nab assailants
Anantag: Government Forces have reportedly launched a manhunt to nab two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) who were allegedly involved in the killing of two local cops in South Kashmirs Islamabad (Anantnag) district.
Police have pasted scores of posters at different places in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, portraying the two active militants of Lashkar involved in recent attack asking people to inform police about their whereabouts.
The poster carries the names of these two militants as Junaid Ahmed Matoo son of Manzoor Ahmed a resident of Khadwani and Ali who is believed to be the citizen of Pakistan.
The Police posters carrying the three cellphone numbers for people to provide details about these two militants who fled from the scene after shooting the two policemen Assistant Sub Inspector Bashir Ahmed and Constable Reyaz Ahmed at Khanabal-Pahalgam road on Saturday morning.
People are requested to help police in arresting these militants before they commit another such activity to harm the respectable citizens, the poster reads.
“The posters that we have pasted on walls, poles and at other places have started showing positive signs and we are hopeful that people would cooperate in getting these militants arrested,” a police official told CNS.
