Handwara: During an anti-militancy operation an Amy jawan lost his life after he slipped from a ridge in the woods of North Kashmirs Kupwara district.
Defense sources said that Army launched a massive operation to flush out militants in Rajwar forests of Handwara town on Tuesday night. Sources added that shortly after the launch of operation, militants opened fire on the search party prompting government forces for retaliation. The exchange of fire between government forces and militants continued for several minutes.
Official sources said that during the operation a soldier Om Veer Singh of 21 Rashtriya Rifles slipped and fell into a deep gorge. Rescue operation was immediately launched and he was shifted to nearby Army hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Pertinently, on Sunday (May 8) a soldier of Territorial Army Kishori Lal, of village Dhar, Kishtwar in Jammu region slipped and fell into a deep nallah while he was repairing anti-infiltration fence which was damaged due to the heavy snowfall this winter.
