SRINAGAR: Kashmir Universitys day-long seminar on women resounded with concern over patriarchal culture and different emerging challenges faced by female folks on daily basis.
To mark Womens International Day, Kashmir Universitys English Department today jointly held a seminar with KCSDS in auditorium hall of Humanities Hall block. In the seminar, the speakers highlighted violence against women besides talking about constant threat to their safety and dignity.
At social, political, cultural, theological levels, said Prof Hameedah Nayeem, Head of KUs English Department, women face the patriarchal culture. In our society man becomes a dominant actor and superior being.
One doctorate scholar Mehvish highlighted different modes of violence against women. Another PHD scholar Deeba stressed that the elders in Kashmir always remind girls about Vopar Ghar. She said the male-dominated society sets various restrictions on women.
Since childhood, the girl is expected to toe a line drawn by men, Deeba said.
