Srinagar: Scores of people have been booked by police under draconian Public Safety Act all across Kashmir. There are some cases where police have slapped second PSA in advance before the quashment of the previous one. Legal experts rue the police delay in submitting all the formal documents of PSA detainees before the court of law.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak told CNS PSA detainees have been facing unnecessary harassment at the hands of police while deliberately documents related to cases are not presented in the court of law in time. This is the murder of justice. It is the obligation of the Law Department to take cognizance of such trend, he said adding that it has become a routine affair for police to slap PSA after PSA on detainees.
I can give you name of the people who have become a prey of the prevailing system in Kashmir. Bilal Ahmed son of Muhammad Yousuf a resident of Hafshermal Shopian has been booked under PSA for his alleged involvement in anti-India activities. When we challenged his PSA in the court of law, police slapped another PSA on him for other charges before the quashment of the previous PSA, he said.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak said that same is the case with other people like Mehrajuddin Ganaie son of Muhammad Maqbool a resident of Zainakot Srinagr, Tariq Ahmed Bhat son of Bashir Ahmed of Redwani Kulgam, Danish Ahmed Dar of Hajin Bandipora, Amir Hamzah of Bandipora and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Hafizullah Mir. Amir Hamzah of Bandipora has been facing seventh PSA, while Hafizullah Mir has been booked under PSA for tenth time, Tak said. (CNS)
