Kousar GullQazigund: The tall claims of the State government about providing of better road connectivity in villages fall flat in Manzmoh area of Doru Constituency in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Due to the pathetic condition of roads the commuters and pedestrians are facing huge inconvenience every day, the locals told Kashmir Observer. According to the residents of Manzmoh, Tanjloo, Kather-Check, Doongiwari, the road in the area are bumpy and dotted with potholes. They said that due to the bad condition of the road, the transporters avoid plying of their vehicles and the villagers have to walk by foot to reach to their respective destinations. The employees and students fail to make to their work places and educational institutions respectively on time as the public transport barely plies on these dilapidated roads, said Ajay Koul, a villager hailing from Kather-Check, adding that the transporters claim that due to the pathetic road condition, the annual maintenance cost of their vehicles have gone up. He said that even a small downpour inundates the roads and it becomes immensely difficult for the pedestrians to walk. The problem gets compounded when the villagers have to ferry the patients from Manzmoh to Qazigund hospital as it takes hours to reach there even when you have your own vehicle at disposal, said Naseer-ul-haq a resident of Manzmoh Nar village. He said that as majority of the people in this remote area are poor and cannot afford their own vehicles, so they have to rely on public transport.
The residents said that although the area is barely few yards away from Srinagar-Jammu Highway, but the authorities have never bothered to macadamize the road. The residents sought the intervention of Divisional commissioner and Chief Engineer R&B in this regard.
