SRINAGAR: A police officer was among two cops injured after militants attacked a police party in Bijbehara area of south Kashmirs Anantnag district.
Official sources said that militants opened fire upon police team near main Bazar, Bijbehara.
In the attack Irshad Ahmad Rather, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and his PSO received injuries.
Both the injured were rushed to nearby hospital where from SDPO was referred to armys 92 base hospital here in Srinagar for specialized treatment, they said.
Soon after the attack, SOG, army and CRPF have cordoned the whole area and launched hunt to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar along with IGP (Kashmir Zone) SJM Gillani, DIG (South Kashmir), Nitish Kumar and SSP Srinagar, Amit Kumar visited 92 Base Army Hospital Badami Bagh this afternoon and enquired about the welfare of SDPO Bijbehara, Irshid Ahmed Rather who was critically injured in a militant attack while performing his official duties at village Goriwan Bijbehara in Anantnag district.
Rajendra enquired about the condition of the injured officer and discussed the treatment being provided by the doctors of the Hospital. The team of doctors apprised the DGP about the treatment of the officer and discussed the future course of action. The DGP asked the Doctors to provide best possible treatment to the officer and offered every kind of assistance from the Department for the speedy recovery of the injured officer.
HIZB OWNS ATTACK
Militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen claimed the responsibility of Bijbehara attack.
Operational Spokesperson Hizb, Burhan-u-Din told Srinagar based news agency CNS that the attack on police party was carried out by its special squad who successfully managed to escape from the scene after the assault.
Both the policemen including the officer got seriously wounded in the attack. We warn all those policemen who aid and assist Indian Forces against militants to suppress the legitimate Freedom Movement in Kashmir to mend their ways, otherwise they will face such attacks in future, Hizb spokesperson warned.
He said that Hizb Operational Field Commander has directed all the outfit militants to intensify attacks on Indian security establishments.
